Ahhh, the Smithsonian. The spot of choice for field trips for kids in the DC Metro area. If you were lucky, you'd get to see either the Natural History Museum or the Air & Space Museum! Spend a day geeking out over the dinosaurs, see the Hope Diamond, check out the NASA artifacts and hitting the planetarium... man, good times.
If it was the American History Museum, though... well, no one ever really looked forward to that one, heh.
